Work on “Defensible Space” as Wildfire Season Approaches

Extra moisture this year means extra growth in the grasses and wild flowers, creating a dangerous situation as wildfire season approaches. As the grasses and flowers die and dry out it leaves the landscape covered in quick fuel for fire and Fruitland Fire is encouraging Basin residents to take precautions. “The national weather service is predicting that the monsoons that usually keep our area wet and hold our wildfire danger down will arrive about 4 to 6 weeks late this year,” shares a Fruitland Fire news release. “Because of this we are advising everyone to work on their ‘Defensible Space’ to remove tinder fire fuel from homes, cabins and outbuildings.” Be sure to clean fire fuel away from structures for at least 30 feet to keep fast moving fires away from your structures and to increase safety for firefighters in the event they need to protect your property. A Fruitland Fire Fair is being held Saturday, May 27th, from 10am to 4pm at the Fruitland Fire Station. Admission is free and there will be door prizes, food, games, and information on home fire prevention and safety. Visit
