Vernal Police issued a press release last week on the arrest of 50-year-old Angela Accuttoroop who was booked into Uintah County Jail on charges of child abuse homicide. Vernal PD shared that a 3-year-old boy died on September 4th due to blunt force injuries. Court documents have provided additional information. The Affidavit of Probable Cause states: “Angela acknowledged becoming frustrated with the child’s behaviors and admitted she was not equipped to take on the care of the child. It should be noted Angela is not a parent of the child but had assumed care taking responsibilities about six weeks prior to the child’s death…Angela Accuttoroop was transported to the Uintah County Jail where she [was] booked in on one count of Child Abuse Homicide, a Second Degree Felony. This is due to Angela having sole care of the child during the time they received significant trauma to their head ultimately causing their death. The injuries to the child cannot be explained by any sort of benign occurrence and would have been inflicted upon the child.” A review hearing is scheduled for January 5th.
