The Department of Workforce Services announced yesterday that SNAP benefits will not be paid in November due to the government shutdown which will affect many in the Uintah Basin. The Utah Department of Health and Human Services issued an announcement on Wednesday regarding another supplemental nutrition program, WIC, which stands for Women, Infants, and Children. “As of [Wednesday], WIC operations and shopping have not been interrupted and will continue to be available into November,” shares the announcement. “WIC offices remain open and ready to help. The costs of WIC benefits are currently covered with contingency funds issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The loss of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits can have a significant impact on families who also rely on WIC for nutrition support. Many families who participate in the WIC program receive monthly SNAP benefits to meet their nutritional needs.” Any updates connected to WIC will be posted on the WIC Shopper app, Utah WIC website, and through text messages.
