Losing a home to fire is a traumatizing event and one that only those who have experienced it will understand. Sadly, two local families now know that reality. The Engle family, that we already highlighted in a report, and the Cox family both lost everything in separate house fires last week. Alexis Cox recalls the terrifying moment they realized they were in danger. “It started around 3:30am,” explains Alexis. “I heard a noise and woke my husband up. We went into the dining room and the window blew out so we ran and got the kids and the dog and got out!” While community members have begun giving donations to help there are some items that are harder to come by than others. At the top of that list is the wheelchair for their son with Muscular Dystrophy that was destroyed in the fire. If anyone has a 14 inch wheelchair they aren’t using, this is a unique and immediate need the family has until they can afford a new one. As far as other donations they do not need any clothing but do still need sheets, blankets, and household items and furniture for when they can get into a new place. Their family member Gina Wiseman is coordinating the effort to collect donations and can be reached at 435-219-9119. Monetary donations are also greatly appreciated and can be made at Mountain America Credit Union under the account ‘Alexis Cox Donation’ or to the Venmo @Alexis-Cox-84.
