Utah’s Division of Wildlife Resources takes several proactive measures during severe drought years to help fish and wildlife species including in the Uintah Basin. Such measures include making changes to the fishing regulations to allow anglers to harvest more fish at drought-impacted waterbodies. They also adjust fish stocking throughout the state, by stocking fish in more drought-resistant waterbodies. The agency will issue fewer general-season deer permits for this year’s hunts. Wildlife management areas are temporarily closed to campfires and recreational target shooting with a firearm. There is a concerted effort to alleviate damage on agricultural properties. The DWR is using all available management tools and programs to assist private landowners and agricultural producers to minimize wildlife damage to their properties. The organization is also installing water guzzlers and supplying water in critical locations where water is currently unavailable. These are just a few examples of what DWR is doing to help during these harsh drought conditions.
