The state water plan is being updated and the Division of Water Resources is gathering input from citizens like you. “Under Utah Code 73-10-15, the Division of Water Resources is required to periodically publish a state water plan,” shares the announcement. “Each state water plan strives to identify current water use and future demand throughout the state as well as provide recommendations for policy, fiscal support and implementation of findings by governmental and private institutions. The plan is the culmination of data gathering, modeling and collaborative efforts with a diverse and balanced group of stakeholders at the state and local level.” These stakeholders include members of the agriculture community as well as other water dependent businesses, conservation organizations, recreation groups, government entities, academia and the public. The water plan is updated no less than every ten years and the next update will be published by the end of 2026. There is currently one meeting scheduled per basin in the state and the one that covers northeastern Utah’s Uintah Basin is coming up next week on October 23rd at the Uintah Conference Center in Vernal at 5:30pm. A link to join the meeting virtually is available on water.utah.gov.
