Vernal will be hopping this weekend with teenage mountain bikers and their families with the region meet for the Utah High School Cycling League being held at Buckskin Hills on Saturday. There will be 33 teams competing this year with around a thousand student athletes. The competition will take place on the 5.7 mile loop course across 2,400 acres in a mixture of single tracks and rolling dirt roads. “We have been able to add some cool features this year,” shares Uintah Rollin’ Utes Team Director Cheryl Meier. “There is a bridge to ride across and a cement culvert that can be traveled across and through the culvert. This course is spectator friendly. We have been working every day on the trail in hopes that it is a great experience for everyone.” Thousands of hours were put in to get the track functional two years ago by Ute head coach Jesse Atwood and many other volunteers. This year the Uintah County Commission offered their support by having the road department help with new sections of the trail.
