Intermountain Catholic announced Friday that Saint James Catholic Church has welcomed a new priest. Father Anil Kumar Kakumanu, a native of India, is now ministering in Vernal. The Intermountain Catholic article says that Father Kakumanu began service as an alter boy and entered the seminary as soon as he could. “While there, he and other seminarians would go to outlying villages on the weekends to evangelize, sometimes bicycling 20 miles each way for their ministry.” He was ordained a priest in 2012. He was recommended for this new assignment by Father Kalva, the administrator over St. James, who had known Father Kakumanu previously. Father Kakumanu arrived in Salt Lake City
on July 26th.
He speaks English, Spanish, Telugu, and Hindu.
