Mild winter weather has moved along the last phase of construction on the Vernal Regional Airport runway project. According to Airport Manager Doug Brown, the last phase is ahead of schedule. The old runway has been torn out and dirt work is ongoing to grade and rake the shoulder on the east side of the new runway where the old runway used to be. This earthwork is required for the airport to meet the standard needed before Skywest can move in and take over service. There also continues to be installation of storm, water and irrigation pipework. A firm completion date is still unknown, says Brown, though it’s possible it will be complete by the end of May. The date for the transition from Boutique Air to Skywest will still take place on June 26th. TSA has been hiring individuals, shares Brown, and Skywest is expected to start hiring by the end of March.
