The new manager of the Vernal Regional Airport, Ken Campbell, provided an airport update at the Vernal Chamber luncheon last week. Campbell had a career in the Air Force before taking the position in Vernal. He emphasized that Vernal has a fabulous runway. It is 7000 feet long and 100 feet wide with excellent lighting that can accommodate almost any plane. As always, the airport’s goal is to get at least 10,000 enplanements per year in order to qualify for certain federal funds. Campbell also reported on the Master Plan stating that it includes continuing improvements to the airport such as a cross wind runway, new terminal, protecting areas for future expansion, and buildings for additional services such as freight shipments. Projects will be prioritized based on the funds available and the goal is to make the airport more accessible with more flights and more diversity.
