There’s many ways to serve one’s country and one Vernal native has done so with 20 years of faithful service with ‘The President’s Own’ United States Marine Band. A press release from the United States Marine Band shares that on July 24, 2026, a retirement ceremony will be held for Creative Lead and Assistant Communication Strategy Chief Master Sgt. Brian Rust. Rust graduated from Uintah High School in Vernal in 2000, earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from BYU in 2006, and joined the Marine Band that same year. “During his distinguished career with the Marine Band, Rust served in direct support of four Presidents of the United States and seven Commandants of the Marine Corps,” shares the announcement. “Rust’s exceptional creativity, technical ability and visionary leadership significantly advanced the branding and communication capabilities of “The President’s Own,” ensuring the present and future success of the Marine Band’s mission. As Creative Lead, he designed all major print and digital publicity materials and created innovative campaigns for significant outreach initiatives, including the immensely popular Sousa’s March Mania. His artistic excellence was instrumental in designing a permanent exhibit stretching the halls of the Pentagon to honor the contributions of military musicians. By his exceptional professionalism, steadfast initiative and total dedication to duty, Rust reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.
