Signs, whether homemade or professionally printed, can be found throughout almost any City, sprinkled on posts, grass strips and in front of residential homes. Vernal City clarified the Vernal City Temporary Sign Ordinance during their last City Council meeting. According to Vernal City Mayor Sonja Norton, most people haven’t known the rules associated with placing signs around town. As the code was written, signs were not permitted on any public right of ways, which includes the strip in front of many residential homes between the sidewalk and street. The ordinance was amended during Wednesday’s meeting, however, to allow for temporary signs on those public right of ways or parking strips. Signs are still not allowed, however, on other public right of ways such as street corners, along the road, or on poles and signs. “It clutters and causes a safety hazard,” shares Norton. “It also leaves a mess as most people do not come back and pick their signs up.”
