Vernal City Planning for Future Road Maintenance

Vernal City is looking long term and planning for the future as far as road maintenance is concerned. According to Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion, the administration and council discussed a maintenance project they hope to do next year during last week’s City Council meeting. “The City does not receive any direct mineral lease money,” explains Bennion, “so we have to go through other funding sources.” Vernal City plans to approach the CIB and the Uintah Transportation Special Service District about funding options for the approximate $1 million dollar project. The hope is to chip and seal major corridor streets in Vernal City aside from the state highways that are already maintained by UDOT. While the decision to move forward was not officially voted on by the council during the meeting, their general approval to move forward was given. Vernal City is also looking into applying for a UDOT program that could eventually fund road improvements on
500 North from Vernal Avenue
to 500 East.
