Two applicants are left in consideration for the Vernal City Manager position that will be vacated with Ken Bassett’s retirement this summer. Vernal City Finance Director Mike Davis and South Weber City Manager Thomas Smith remain in the running for the position. Vernal City Manager Ken Bassett officially made the announcement last August of his retirement scheduled for early summer 2017. The job announcement was posted in the fall and the Mayor and hiring committee narrowed down the pool of applicants from four to two after the February 15th City Council meeting. The new City Manager is anticipated to begin in the position in the month of April providing for several months of side-by-side training with Mr. Bassett. Mayor Sonja Norton says a private social will soon be held where public leaders can interact and discuss issues with the two applicants. The Council hopes to make a decision during the March 15th City Council meeting.
