Vernal City is onboard with an energy efficiency program offered by Rocky Mountain Power that is available to businesses in the community at large. The lighting cost efficiency program upgrades lights to energy efficient options with Rocky Mountain Power covering 75% of the cost leaving the business only responsible for 25% of the cost. Vernal City Council discussed the cost savings assessment during Wednesday’s City Council meeting and agreed the cost was minimal compared to the money the City will save in the long run. “The City Council did vote to having lighting switched to LED,” says Vernal City Mayor Sonja Norton. “According to Rocky Mountain Power’s assessment, the difference in cost would be paid back to the City within one year and everything after that is a savings.” Businesses in the community can contact Rocky Mountain Power to learn if they are eligible for the program.
