It was an exciting night at the 73rd annual Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce meeting and dinner held at the Uintah Conference Center. The Total Citizen of the Year Award was presented to Marilyn Wallis. The Life Time Achievement Award was presented to Anita Rothwell Calder. The Environmental Award was presented to High Desert Anglers. The Business of the Year awards were presented to TriCounty Health Department for Service, Davis Food & Drug for Retail/Wholesale, Caerus Uinta LLC for Manufacturing/Industry, Uintah Basin Technical College for Government, and the Scott and Kristy Wall family for Agriculture. The guest speaker for the night was Congressman John Curtis who now represents Utah’s 3rd Congressional District which will include much of the Uintah Basin once the new boundaries are put into effect. Curtis described his efforts in Washington D.C. including his Conservative Climate Caucus which aims to counteract the narrative that fossil fuels are bad. A third of Republicans signed up to be a part of it making it one of the largest caucuses in D.C. He also spoke about the greatness he sees in the Uintah Basin communities and that he is proud to represent Utah’s 3rd district. Vernal Chamber President Jared Jackson delivered the Chamber Report sharing that membership increased from 226 to 254 members over the last year. He emphasized that it has been a busy and exciting year for the Vernal Chamber and they are looking forward to what the coming year will bring.
