Ute Tribe Battle PLI in Washington, D.C.

by | Nov 18, 2016 | News | 0 comments

Members and leaders of the Ute Tribe made multiple stops while in Washington, D.C. this week as they continue their pursuit to stop Congressman Rob Bishop’s Public Lands Initiative. In addition to delivering a petition to House Speaker Paul Ryan, over 170,000 petition signatures were hand delivered to the Washington office of Senator Orinn Hatch. The Ute Tribe Political Action Committee has lead petition drives at colleges around Utah including Utah State University locations. Their efforts included a campaign to stop Congressman Bishop from being re-elected but Bishop won with 65.38 percent of the popular vote in Congressional District 1 that covers north and northeastern Utah. The Political Action Committee remains focused, however, as they continue to oppose H.R. 5780.
