In addition to the agencies behind the project, there has been tremendous support for the Uinta Basin Railway. In fact, each member of the Utah Congressional Delegation and State elected officials from Governor Cox’s office on down, as well as many officials in Washington D.C., have been vocal in support of the project. While each is appreciated and valuable, there is one whose influence stood out during a special radio program about the Uinta Basin Railway that took place Monday morning on Newstalk 104.5 FM and AM 920 KVEL. According to Seven County Infrastructure Coalition Executive Director Mike McKee, the Ute Indian Tribe’s involvement and work on the project has been the most critical and the project would not be where it is without them. Mark Hemphill, Senior Vice President of Rio Grande Pacific, emphasized that working with the Ute Indian Tribe and Business Committee has been a great pleasure. “We appreciate their support and their vision for their nation and their people,” shared Hemphill. He stated that he believes the railroad will fulfill “their vision of what they want to do in the Basin and what they want to accomplish and the economic security they want for their people.” Pamela Juliano, Director of Governmental Affairs with Rio Grande Pacific, emphasized the important role the leadership of the Ute Indian Tribe has played, stating that their leadership was not only supportive but has been engaged in the entire process.
