The Ute Indian Tribe has issued a 2018 Fire Restriction Order. The announcement, signed June 11th, states that fire conditions are deemed extremely hazardous, constituting a threat to life, property, and the Tribe’s natural resources. The Restrictions include no setting, building, maintaining, attending or using open fires of any kind except campfires in developed and improved areas; no discharging or using fireworks, tracer ammunition, exploding targets, or pyrotechnic devices; no operating an internal or external combustion engine without a spark arresting device properly installed, maintained and in effective working order; and no cutting, welding, or grinding metal in areas of vegetation. The exemptions to the Fire Restriction Order are any federal or firefighting force in the performance of official duty, and any religious leaders involved with a cultural or religious event. The 2018 Fire Restriction Order on the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation went into effect on June 13th.
