While there’s nothing good about high unemployment in the Basin, it is good to know that the state of Utah’s unemployment program is considered among the best in the country. Last week, Utah’s unemployment program was featured in a hearing of the U.S. House Ways and Means subcommittee on Human Resources. “Utah is one of the top states in the country when it comes to having low duration and exhaustion rates, and has one of the healthiest Unemployment Trust Funds,” stated Utah’s Unemployment Insurance Director Michelle Beebe during her congressional testimony. DWS Executive Director Jon Pierpont also emphasized that Utah’s Unemployment Insurance Program is an excellent example and that it is an honor to have Utah highlighted as an example for the nation.
