The Department of Workforce Services has released the monthly employment summary for the state. Utah’s nonfarm payroll has grown by 3 percent adding 45,200 jobs to the economy since June 2018. The state unemployment rate is down
from 2.9 to 2.8
percent. Nationally, unemployment has ticked up to 3.7 percent. “The Utah economy remains strong and continues to absorb and employ labor at a fast pace,” shares Mark Knold, Senior Economist at the Department of Workforce Services. “The unemployment rate has lowered to 2.8 percent, the lowest in more than 12 years. It is remarkable that Utah can still grow the employment base by 3.0 percent given this extremely tight labor market.” While this may be true for the state as a whole, the Uintah Basin continues to feel the economic pinch. Unemployment rates by county will also be released this week with updated rates as a better measure for Uintah, Duchesne, and Daggett Counties.
