The Utah Wildlife Board met on Thursday and approved permit numbers for this fall’s hunts with an increase in permits for buck deer, buck pronghorn, bull moose, and bighorn sheep thanks to the healthy wildlife populations. “If you enjoy hunting or viewing big game,” shares DWR big game coordinator Covy Jones, “it’s a great time to live in Utah.” In 2017, there were 89,050 general buck deer permits and in 2018 there is 90,650. Based on the number of bucks observed after last fall’s hunts, the wildlife board members approved a recommendation to increase the permits on 10 units. The general rifle hunt has also been split into two hunts on most of the units, one in September and one in October. For more information on the fall 2018 hunt, visit
