Utah Highway Patrol Winter Weather Travel Tips

Winter is here and Utah Highway Patrol is urging all to adjust their driving accordingly. “If you’re traveling/commuting today, keep it slow, keep a following distance well above the 2 seconds required by law and slow down,” shares Utah Highway Patrol. “Move over for your 1st responders out there!” It’s also crucial to be sure your vehicle is prepared to travel in winter conditions. All vehicles need good tires, especially when moisture is on the road. Older tires without a lot of tread are the equivalent of ice skates for your car, shares UtahWinterDriving.org. Other musts include filling your wiper fluid reservoir with antifreeze wiper fluid before the first snowstorm. Check your wiper blades and replace them if necessary. Pack an emergency kit for your car for the unexpected. Check your battery and make sure it is up for the challenges of winter. Make sure you have enough coolant in your vehicle that can withstand winter temperatures. For visibility, clear ice and snow off the vehicle windows, headlights, and tail lights.
