The Utah Energy United initiative recognizes excellence in the energy industry and has announced the winners of the annual UPA Safety and Environmental Awards held this month. Williams was recognized with the Safety Leadership Award for their commitment to advancing lower-carbon energy and responsible pipeline operations. Williams “developed comprehensive initiatives to reduce emissions across its natural gas transmission systems. The company implemented an operating guideline targeting an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from non-emergency pipeline blowdowns, alongside a major emissions reduction program replacing legacy reciprocating engines with low-NOx gas turbines—projected to reduce NOx by 73% and methane emissions by 38% across its Northwest Pipeline system.” They also use voluntary Leak Detection and Repair programs, real-time pipeline monitoring technology to optimize fuel efficiency, and developed NextGen Gas, a certified lower-emissions natural gas program that tracks methane intensity.
