The pandemic changed a lot of plans but one positive is that it seemed to put more people outside enjoying what the wilderness and fresh air can give a person. Not surprisingly then, the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources has announced that ten new state fishing records were set in 2020. The records fish program includes records for catch-and-release and spearfishing to name a few. At this time there are 33 state catch- and-keep angling records, 37 state catch-and-release records, 21 state spearfishing records, six state set- line records and three state archery records in Utah. Three of the records were broken at Fish Lake. Two catch-and-release records were each broken only to have someone a little bit later break those same records. Of the new records one was broken when local Chance Scott caught a 44 ⅛ inch Lake Trout that weighed 53 pounds and 15 ounces, an example that at least some things in 2020 went right.
