Eric Funk has come a long way since his days at USU Uintah Basin earning his associates degree and then pharmacy prerequisites. He attended pharmacy school in Las Vegas and now today has a successful career as a nuclear pharmacist at PETNET Solutions Inc. “We take a radioactive isotope and attach it to a drug that is specific to the area of the body or disease we want to see,” explains Funk. “There are special cameras that can image the radioactivity and display the information. The most common radiopharmaceutical I deal with helps in imaging and evaluating the treatment success or spread of cancer. The information these tools provide allow physicians to determine the best course of action for patients.” Funk has high praise for the school where he got his start, saying that during pharmacy school he regularly referred back to his notes from his time at USU Uintah Basin and was able to help other classmates understand complicated concepts. He also considers the small class sizes and accessibility to professors as major benefits of attending USU Uintah Basin. “USU Uintah Basin provided a good variety of courses during the week and weekend that allowed me to choose classes that worked with my schedule,” shares Funk. “Adaptable schedules, a convenient location, and great professors were the core of my success during my associate degree.”
