Update On Uintah County Treasurer Nomination; Wendi Long Issues Letter/GOP Chairman Responds

Uintah County Treasurer Wendi Long has publicly shared a letter she addressed to the Uintah County Republican Party Executive Committee concerning their nomination for her replacement in the Uintah County Treasurer seat and Republican Party Chairman Kason Goodrich has provided a response, both attached below. Wendi Long announced her resignation in September which started the process for the Uintah County Republican Party to make a nomination for her replacement. The Uintah County Republican Party announced their nomination of K. Mark Caldwell for the Uintah County Treasurer position on October 16th and noted in the announcement that the Commission had 7 calendar days to make the appointment. While the specific date was not shared, Uintah County Republican Party Chairman Kason Goodrich says that during the process that followed, the Republican Party discovered that the candidates had to submit a financial disclosure and conflict of interest form to the county clerk. The Republican Party withdrew Mark Caldwell’s nomination so the candidates could file these disclosures. “The committee will convene again, discuss the feedback that has been shared, and re-vote,” says Goodrich. “Then we will submit our nomination to the commissioners.” While the Uintah County Attorney clarified that the party has until January 30th to submit their nomination, Goodrich says the Republican Party anticipates providing a nomination sooner with the hope that Wendi Long will work with any of the nominees to provide a smooth transition. With the nomination again pending, Long chose to share a letter publicly over the weekend outlining her opposition to the appointment of Mark Caldwell as Uintah County Treasurer, citing experiences with Caldwell during his time with Uintah County serving as a budget officer. Long also stated her belief that the nomination highlights what she called an “apparent emphasis on political platform issues in the selection process” and concluded that there were other qualified candidates who deserve serious consideration. Uintah County Republican Party Chairman Kason Goodrich provided the response to Long’s letter this morning, stating that “several assumptions in her letter do not accurately reflect the process the committee has followed. The Committee has conducted this appointment process in accordance with Utah law, Party bylaws, and established procedure — not political motivations or personal disputes.” A link to Wendi Long's full letter is below along with Goodrich’s full response, including his breakdown of what the Committee Has done, Has Not done, what they are looking for in a nominee, and a statement about moving forward.
