The Department of Workforce Services reports that April’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is estimated at 3.8%, the same as March. Approximately 69,200 Utahns are unemployed. The national unemployment rate is estimated at 4.3%, also unchanged from its level in March. Unemployment by county ticked down by 0.1 percent in northeastern Utah with Daggett County now at 3.7%, Duchesne County at 3.9%, and Uintah County at 3.8%. “We are seeing a mixed economic picture,” shares Ben Crabb, chief economist with the Department of Workforce Services. “On one hand, job expansion is outpacing the nation and unemployment is low. On the other, labor force growth is flat, and hesitation from employers to expand their headcount signals a cautious approach to the future.”
