Uintah Wrestling Programs Find Success At 51st Tournament of Champions

Wrestlers and fans traveled from throughout the region for a weekend of intense competition at the 51st annual Tournament of Champions in Vernal over the weekend. The boys wrestling tournament took place at the Western Park. Uintah placed 2nd with 260 team points with Payson edging them out for 1st with 262.5 team points. Juab placed 3rd with 238 points. Austin Richens, Jett Swain, and Gage Howard earned individual Tournament of Champion titles and Austin Richens was selected as the top wrestler in the upper weight category. Wrestlers that placed for Uintah were Raleigh Thomson, Rykan Hacking, Trevor Angus, Michael Alexander, Brody Rhoades, Casen Wopsock, Christian Hartle, Jacob Rhoades, Chase McCurdy, Bryce Jensen, and Caden Young. The girls wrestling tournament took place at the Uintah Conference Center. The Uintah girls placed 3rd with 199 points behind Grand Junction with 231 and Juab with 213. Emma Carri, Maddison Tenney, Chanley Green, and Sydnie Dick each earned individual Tournament of Champions titles. Wrestlers that placed for Uintah were Jacelyn Rich, Aidyn Sharp, Kensington Long, Kenna McCauley, Jakailei Lujan, Kenzi McCauley, Taileigh Lujan, Tierney Logan, Jennacee Harrison, Kailee Walker, KayLynn Ward, Lily Batty, Alyese Sharp, CieleRichardson, Kayli Keel, Kambre Wilhelm, Cozette Pena, and Tessa Barton. This year, the Tournament of Champions organizers awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award to Chuck Henry.
