Policies continue to be examined and updated in preparation for schools to reopen and Uintah School District announced an update Thursday on face shields and mask exemptions. The district’s press release explains that upon further conversations with TriCounty Health Department, it has been decided that plastic face shields will be allowed as a possible accommodation for students and employees who provide written documentation from their doctor that they have a medical condition, mental health condition, or disability that substantially limits them from wearing a mask. “The district is constantly receiving and evaluating new information from state and public health officials,” shares Uintah Schools Superintendent Rick Woodford. “Based on this new information, there will be ongoing changes to processes and procedures for schools. We know that frequent change can be distressing and frustrating for many, but it is one of the unavoidable challenges associated with the pandemic.” An exemption form can be requested by calling the district office or the office of your child’s school. The form must be signed by a licensed medical professional as defined on the form. The school district has made it clear they will comply with the statewide public health order while also working with students and staff who provide the district with proper documentation.
