A public hearing is approaching for a Uintah School District proposed judgment levy. “As the district announced on June 19, it is proposing a judgement levy to cover a $390,482 budget shortfall created by a large company’s successful appeal of its state tax assessment,” shares the District. “This isn’t a new tax or a tax increase. It’s a one-time correction allowed by Utah law. It ensures that all property owners pay what they would have paid if the original tax assessment by the state of Utah had been accurate.” The public hearing regarding the Uintah School District proposed judgement levy is scheduled for August 6th at 6 p.m. in the Uintah School District office boardroom. A public hearing will also be held next month concerning the Central Utah Water Conservancy District tax rate proposal. That public meeting will be held on August 25th at 6 p.m. at 50 East 200 South in Roosevelt. As a point of clarification regarding these proposals, Uintah County shared the following: “Uintah County would like to remind residents that while it is the County’s responsibility to provide property tax notifications and to collect taxes on behalf of the various local taxing entities, Uintah County is not responsible for setting tax rates for the other taxing entities; rates are determined by each individual entity. Uintah County is just one of the various local entities that levy property tax.”
