Uintah School District Issues Message on School Safety Measures in Place

by | Mar 8, 2018 | News | 0 comments

Uintah School District has issued a message on school safety measures in place in the District in light of recent school shootings and threats made at schools around the state in recent weeks. First, the District has physical security measures in place at each school that include all exterior doors remaining locked with the exception of the main door leading to the office. A safety coordinator makes periodic rounds to look for any doors that have been propped open or that might not be secure. Each campus also has a security system including video surveillance. Second, strong relationships have been built with local law enforcement and all secondary schools have school resource officers. Third, each school has a designated crisis team that plan emergency drills and identify areas for improvement. Emergency lockdown drills are held in each school. Fourth, the school uses a messaging system during emergencies to communicate with parents and guardians through phone, email, and text messaging. Strong partnerships with local radio and the use of social media pages are also set up to communicate quickly with the public in the event of an emergency. More information on the District’s Safe Schools Policy can be found on the District’s website,
