The numbers are in and the Uintah School District is celebrating. The District announced on Tuesday that at the end of the 2024-2025 school year, Uintah School District third graders exceeded the state average for Reading on Grade Level with a state average of 48.7% and the district average reaching 51.1%. Why is this such a big deal? “The research is clear,” shares Superintendent Dr. Rick Woodford. “Students who read at grade level by the end of 3rd grade are much more likely to graduate from high school and enjoy life-long economic, health, and social benefits.” District Elementary Curriculum Director Jayme Leyba explains that over the past three years, third-grade reading scores in the District have increased by 13.1 percentage points. “While many factors may have contributed to this growth,” says Leyba, “three stand out: the intentional implementation of evidence-based programs such as CKLA and UFLI, consistent monitoring and support from administrators to ensure program fidelity, and teachers’ effective analysis of student reading data to guide instruction.”
