A local educator is being recognized for the many years served in a special position focused on student excellence. Kay Baker has served as the Uintah High School Sterling Scholar advisor for 36 years. Baker is retiring at the end of the school year after 39 years of teaching in the Uintah School District. Uintah School Board Vice President Robin McClellan praised Baker during the night of recognizing this year’s Sterling Scholars. McClellan called Baker Uintah High’s “golden scholar”, a “pillar” of the school, and the “heart and soul of Uintah High.” Uintah High has had 538 Sterling Scholar candidates over the years, according to Baker. 244 of those students placed at the regional competition and 94 won their Sterling Scholar category with 150 named runner-up in their category. Thank you Kay Baker for your many years of service and dedication to student excellence!
