Uintah High School students have proven once again that teenagers can lead the way in creating change and doing good. Every holiday season, the high school selects local causes to raise money for during the holidays for Chuck Your Change. This year they decided on two things. First to collect food for the food pantry and second to raise money for a special local cause known as Westyn’s Vision. Extra motive was added to the food drive by creating a friendly competition with Union High School. Both schools collected amazing amounts of food and needed items but in the end Uintah won by collecting around 3000 pounds of food. The students were just as committed to raising money for Westyn’s Vision. Student council advisor Janalee Watkins explains that Westyn’s Vision is a local cause to raise money for handicap accessible playground equipment to be installed in local parks. They have partnered with the Uintah Recreation District so that as funds become available the new equipment can become a reality. The students set a lofty goal of raising $15,000 dollars and between evening activities, daily fundraising challenges, and change jars over the last month, Uintah High School met their goal! “This year has been the model of service and giving to others and helping those in need and just generally making the world a better place by serving,” shares Watkins. “Chuck Your Change is great to watch as it gets into the students hearts and they see how they can serve and make life better for kids in our own community.” Well done Uintah High School and thank you for representing the Uintah Basin so well!
