Wildfires happen every year and the Uintah Fire District wants to hear from the public as they work to develop a wildfire preparedness plan. According to a press release from the Uintah Fire District, the State has a program that helps local government take some responsibility for wildfire mitigation in exchange for transferring some of the fiscal responsibility back to the State. “It is essentially an insurance policy for local governments that contain or are near large amounts of wildland within their boundaries.” Local fire departments have started the process of developing a Community Wildfire Preparedness Plan and are still gathering information, a task they hope citizens will help with by attending an open house or by taking a survey online. Two public open house meetings will be held this month, one
on August 29th from 6 to 9pm
at the Vernal City building and a second
on August 30th from 6 to 9pm
at the Ballard City building. A survey is also available to take online at
