Practice and dedication paid off as athletes competed in the swimming event for the Northeast Area Special Olympics games held at the Uintah Community Center on Wednesday morning. After months and months of twice a week practices, the 17 athletes were ready for the competition. “It was a great day,” shares swim coach Wendy Harris. “Many medals were earned and there were many excited athletes and fans. The athletes worked hard and did a fantastic job competing.” Coach Harris says she enjoys everything about working with these athletes. “They are so much fun and so eager to be there and learn,” she shares. “They love unconditionally and get excited every time they learn something new. They wear their medals with pride and will wear them around town this week so make sure to tell them good job!!” The next stage of the competition will take place at the Special Olympics state games May 20th and 21st at Granger High School.
