Uintah County and Vernal City are in the process of purchasing a parcel of land for the Vernal Airport on 900 East 500 South as it lies in what the FAA defines as a runway protection zone. Airport director Ken Campbell approached the Uintah County Commission about the 17.91 acre real estate purchase during Monday’s Commission meeting. Campbell explained that the agreement allows the seller to lease back the northern 5.71 acres for 5 years and the agreed upon purchase amount for the near 18 acres is $312,388 dollars. The real estate purchase is being paid by money already budgeted for this purpose and the amount is eligible for FAA reimbursement because it is a runway protection zone. The Uintah County Commission approved the purchase.
