A Uintah County toddler was fatally shot inside her home in Uintah County on Sunday. According to the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the Uintah Basin Medical Center on December 10th on a report that a child had been shot. Investigators learned that the two-year-old girl was “at her home in Ballard when she was accidentally shot while an older sibling was moving a gun.” Following a hunting trip, the gun had been brought into the home the day before and was left leaning against a wall. “The victim and other siblings were cleaning up their toys when one of the older siblings went to move the gun from inside the house to another location [and] in the process of moving the gun, it discharged, fatally wounding the two year old girl.” The victim was rushed to the hospital by her parents where she was pronounced dead. The investigation into the incident is ongoing and the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office offers their thoughts and prayers to the family of the victim.
