Uintah County Sheriff Steve Labrum is advocating for women’s safety and has announced a special event taking place next month with that in mind. Sheriff Labrum has teamed up with Rener and Eve Gracie for a training event being offered at Western Park in Vernal. “In today’s environment of human trafficking, assaults, rapes, and various abuse situations, we have to do something meaningful to help protect the women in our lives,” shares Sheriff Labrum. “I’ve always wanted to host a women’s self defense course but haven’t had the right facility or the right instructors to host a credible event…The Gracies, along with their staff, will be here in Vernal to teach women how to protect themselves and give them the mindset to hopefully avoid a terrible situation all together.” The Gracie family are the founders of UFC. The event is open to all women, not just women from the Uintah Basin, and is taking place October 1st and 2nd. The cost is $50 for the two day event.
