More details have been released on the upcoming Uintah County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Police Academy. Two times a year, the academy will offer 12-weeks of classes held once a week for 3 hours. New rounds of classes will be offered in January and August of each year and the Academy will only accept 24 people for each session. “The Citizen Police Academy is in place so you can receive a working knowledge through a behind the scenes experience that is designed to foster a closer relationship between the police and the community we serve and the city you live in,” shares the Sheriff’s Office. “We are focused on bridging the gap between the citizens of Uintah County and the Sheriff’s Office.” Applicants must be at least 18-years-old and able to pass a criminal background check. Courses will include Crime Scene Investigation and Processing, K-9 Unit SWAT, and Firearms Gangs, among others. Applications can be picked up at the Sheriff’s Office during business hours. Those who are accepted are expected to complete the full course. For more information, call
