Uintah County Sex Offender Arrested On New Charges Targeting 11-Year-Old

A Uintah County man currently on the Sex Offender Registry who was Guilty of Felony Forcible Sexual Abuse of a Minor in 2022 has now been arrested for alleged sexual exploitation of an 11-year-old with Autism he met while in the boy’s home working as a handyman. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, 23-year-old Jacob Kimball Bates was arrested on July 18th after family discovered texts Bates sent the child requesting Child Sexual Abuse Material as well as a request to engage in various sex acts. Images and videos had also been sent. Family contacted law enforcement and an interview was conducted with the child at a Children’s Justice Center. Bates met the 11-year-old in the child’s home while there completing handyman work. Since that time they had associated with each other through the online game Fortnite. The child, who is diagnosed with Autism and ADHD, disclosed to interviewers that he does not feel safe in his home as he’s afraid Bates will kidnap him. Bates was taken into custody at his home in Ballard on the evening of July 18th and was booked into Duchesne County Jail. The offenses listed in the Affidavit include 1st Degree Felony Enticing A Minor, 3 counts of 2nd Degree Felony Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, 7 counts of 3rd Degree Felony Distributing Material Harmful to a Minor, and 7 counts of 3rd Degree Felony Distributing Pornographic Material. The Affidavit noted that Bates is currently on probation with AP&P for Forcible Sexual Abuse of a Child and is on the Sex Offender Registry.
