A Uintah County man was arrested on Friday after law enforcement pieced together what had to be a confusing situation. The call to dispatch claimed that someone was shot but thankfully in the end that wasn’t the case. Officers arrived to find a 58-year-old man and his elderly mother. They reported that they were convinced people were hiding in an upstairs crawl space and so the man had shot them through the wall and ceiling. Police investigation revealed that no one was inside the crawl space but there was evidence in the home of casings and bullet holes in walls and ceilings. A search warrant was executed in which weapons, drug paraphernalia, and methamphetamine was found in the home. Officers checked on neighbors due to evidence of stray bullets and thankfully all stated that they were okay. They did report that the man in question had pointed a weapon at them before. The 58-year-old man was arrested and booked into Uintah County Jail on drug, firearm, and reckless endangerment offenses. Police emphasized in the probable cause statement that the man poses a danger to himself, his mother, and the general public due to extreme mental health issues, access to firearms, and drug usage.
