Uintah County issued a news release last week highlighting the recent achievements of the Uintah County Library under the leadership of Library Director Karen England. A notable achievement to start with is that the Uintah County Library was recognized with the Utah Library Association’s Library of Exceptional Service Award. The County release shared that England’s efforts have drawn both statewide and national attention. In a recent interview with K-Love’s Closer Look, she reflected on the library’s broader mission: “We are really community hubs,” England said. “We’re social, educational, and civic…high-quality facilities and services that support lifelong learning.” That vision is evident in the library’s growing Makerspace, a creative hub that brings innovation to life. The space features a long-arm quilting machine, a Cricut machine for crafting, and a computerized cardboard cutter designed just for kids. There’s also a growing fiber arts area where community members can sew, knit, weave, or learn new textile skills. Over time the library plans to expand the suite even further, offering tools and training that help residents turn ideas into finished projects.
