The statewide GOP-led effort to put Proposition 4 back on the ballot for Utah voters to decide its fate appears to have fallen short of the signatures necessary. The initiative met the needed signatures in nearly all of Utah’s counties, including in northeastern Utah. Uintah County GOP chairman Kason Goodrich says local support met the signature goal. “We want to thank the residents of Uintah County for supporting the repeal of Proposition 4,” shares Goodrich. “Hundreds of thousands of Utahns signed the petition. Sadly the proposition will not be on the 2026 ballot. Early reports indicate it failed to get the required signatures in Senate District 15 which is in Cottonwood Heights. The lobbying firm Morgan & May Public Affairs showed it had failed by 258 signatures.” State Republican leaders have commented that this is not the end of their efforts to repeal Prop 4.
