The preliminary findings of an engineering study focused on Uintah County flood control into the future were presented at a public meeting last night at Western Park. The engineers reviewed a plan developed in 2008 and stated that the information supports using established canals as the most economic solution in handling future flood control. While it is pointing in that direction, there are other options that are being explored. “The three main approaches are first, using the canals, second, letting the water go back where gravity originally took it, and third, to just use the roads as the path for flood water to flow,” explains Aaron Averett of Sunrise Engineering. Ultimately, however, it’s most likely the parties involved will come together to develop a combined solution. Following the presentation and some questions from the public, attendees took a closer look at enlarged maps of areas around Uintah County. Those in attendance were also urged to offer their input and were provided a written form to do so. The engineering analysis is expected to be complete and presented to Uintah County by mid-December.
