The Uintah County Commission took action during Monday’s Commission meeting to see property taxes significantly reduced. According to a Uintah County press release, the budget amendment reduces the Uintah County portion of the 2022 property taxes from $11.4 million to $7.2 million dollars, a reduction of $4.2 million dollars or 36.89 percent when compared to the Uintah County portion of the 2021 property taxes. The Commission also took action to pay off the Uintah County General Obligation Bonds (Series 2015) which will reduce future years property taxes by $26.7 million dollars. This amounts to a combined reduction of $30.9 million dollars to property taxes. The Commission explained that as of January 2018, the County owed $56 million dollars in bonded debt obligations and it is planned that by December 2022 that amount will be reduced to zero. As of December 31st, 2021 the County had $102 million dollars in restricted and non-restricted cash. The early payment of the bonds is through the use of $7.65 million dollars of restricted cash and $18.85 million dollars of non-restricted cash. The Commission stated that Monday’s amendments to the 2022 Uintah County budget aim to provide financial relief to Uintah County taxpayers and that no cuts have been made to county services provided to citizens. The County also continues to have sufficient funds for all planned capital projects and operations.
