The process continues of combining three Uintah County Special Service Districts into one. On September 14th, 2020, the Uintah County Commission met and decided to create one new Special Service District to be over Recreation, Transportation, and Impact Mitigation. Officially named Special Service District #1, the District was set up to have a 9 person board made up of 1 representative each from Naples City, Vernal City, Ballard City, the Uintah County Commission and 5 board members. Uintah County Commissioner Bill Stringer provided an update on SSD#1 during this week’s Commission meeting. He shared that the board has been formed and work has been done on the budget, bylaws, and policies for personnel and purchasing. Stringer explained that they knew from the beginning this transition would take time and that most recently they are working on insurance the district needs to carry and the transfer of assets and debts. Transportation and Impact Mitigation will be easier to transfer than the Recreation District because they do not have the amount of assets or real estate that the Rec District does.
