Uintah County adopted an Ordinance on Monday related to SB162 which was passed in the Utah Legislature to clarify roles within county governance for counties throughout the state. The Commissioners presented a financial workflow chart during the meeting to show how financial data and reports will flow within county administration as a result. Commissioner Haslem explained that the idea is just checking if at the end of the day all the reports match, therefore providing a mechanism to catch any mistakes that can happen. Commissioner Stringer emphasized that this system will make it easy to look up records and get straight forward answers within the county and for the public. Public comment was accepted and Clerk/Auditor Mike Wilkins as well as Treasurer Wendy Long expressed opposition to the Commissioners passing the Ordinance, emphasizing that they had not had a chance to review this draft. The Commissioners referenced in response the public hearing held several weeks ago and that the Commissioners took all comments made by elected officials about that draft under consideration. Uintah County Chief Deputy Attorney Jonathan Stearmer stated that after the last public meeting a draft was submitted to the Attorney’s Office and statutory references were added and it was sent back to the Commissioners for Monday’s draft. The Commission passed the motion to approve Ordinance No. 06-06-2022 01 – Financial Administration. A copy of the Uintah County Financial Workflow chart is included with this news story on www.basinnow.com.
