It’s going to be a full weekend of high school rodeo with young competitors coming from all around the state of Utah. Western Park Facilities Manager Derk Hatch says the event is highly anticipated as one of the largest high school rodeos in the state bringing between 2,500 to 3,000 people to Vernal for the event. There are 28 high school rodeo clubs throughout the state and there will be representation from each of them at this weekend’s events, shares local Secretary of the Uintah Basin High School Rodeo club Jackie Boren. The local club encompasses high school aged rodeo-ers from the entire Uintah Basin and even into Colorado. Team roping got started on Thursday, the Rich High School Rodeo is running on Friday and Uintah Basin High School Rodeo is on Saturday. “The rodeo clubs are a very good thing for these kids,” shares Boren. “They have to meet grade requirements to be able to rodeo and for some kids that is what gets them through school. Rodeo is also very family oriented and teaches the kids discipline, determination, and to be responsible.” Head to the Western Park for high school rodeo action this weekend.
